W.Bolero: an award-winning french confectionary in Shiga.

Looking for a relaxing cafe where you can have a nice cup of tea and a tasty sweet when traveling to Shiga? Then you may want to visit W.Bolero, an award-winning french confectionary in Moriyama Shiga. Only 20 mins away from the museum by car.

This confectionery has been chosen as one of the 100 Most Delicious Confectionery by TABELOG (a website of user reviews like YELP) for 7 years in a row. W.Bolero opened in 2004 and also opened another shop in Osaka in 2013. They sell not just patisserie but also homemade bread, fruit-jam, imported wine, oil, cheese, etc. You can either bring them home or eat in the shop. There is a cafe inside. This cafe is not a tourist spot like every cafes in Kyoto, you can enjoy the local atmosphere if you prefer that.

The confectionary recommendation is a baked cheesecake “Eierschecke”. Eierschecke is originally from the city of Dresden in Germany.

Eierschecke

Eierschecke is a thick cheesecake composed of 4 layers, crumbled cookie, butter and custard dough, cream cheese with rum-soaked raisins and finally a sablé dough.

The Eierschecke comes in a variety of sizes, a piece for one person, a long-one and a half-one for sharing. At first, you may think the piece is very small, however, even the half-one is good enough for 4 people since the cheesecake tastes very thick.

About the shop’s Eierschecke

If you are going to Osaka, they have a shop in the center of Osaka as well.

Locating next to Kyoto and Osaka, Shiga may be a place people don’t pay attention much, however, the place is actually full of enchantment. Shiga has a lot of nature, art, traditional culture, and obviously good food.
